Galati Tehnopol Association is a partner in the project UrBan hEat islands REsilience, prepAreDness and mitigation strategY – Be Ready (project code DRP0200793), approved for funding under the Danube Region Programme2021–2027, Priority Axis 2 – “A Greener, Zero-Carbon Europe”.
The project aims to support partner cities in better understanding the phenomenon of urban heat islands (UHI), their causes and effects on vulnerable populations. With the support of scientific and technical partners, the project consortium has developed a common methodology for vulnerability assessment and mapping of urban areas experiencing high-intensity heat island effects. This methodology includes tools for data collection and analysis, respectively for creating predictive scenarios regarding the evolution of this phenomenon in the urban environment.
Within this project, the Municipality of Galați produced a UHI Risk Assessment Report, applying the common methodology regarding the four analyzed dimensions: exposure, sensitivity, preparedness capacity and adaptive capacity. The report also includes the identification of vulnerable groups and the assessment of the usefulness of the tools used, as well as recommendations for improving the methodology where necessary.
